Philippines eTA for Norwegian Citizens

eTA Requirements for the Philippines from Norway

Norwegian citizens may soon be eligible to apply for the Philippines’ eTA. This new electronic travel authorization will become available for nationals of countries that are currently allowed to enter the Philippines visa-free for short terms.

The introduction of the eTA will allow travelers from Norway and several other nations to obtain this new Filipino permit from the comfort of their homes in a matter of minutes.

Citizens of Norway are invited to read more to learn about the Filipino entry requirements with the visa waiver.

Filipino eTA for Norwegians: What to Expect

The Philippines’ eTA follows the example of most South Asian countries that have already implemented this visa waiver system. In that sense, it is worth mentioning this online permit is not a visa, but a visa waiver, although more information will be soon released by the Philippines’ authorities.

Currently, the eTA for the Philippines is available only for Taiwanese citizens. In the near future, it is expected to include more nationalities.

Norwegians are allowed visa-free entry for up to 30 days for tourism and business trips and, as of 2021, the visa waiver will be mandatory in those cases. For longer stays and for other travel purposes, a visa will still be necessary.

Types of Philippines Visas Available From Norway

Depending on the length of the stay and on the purpose of the trip, Norwegian citizens have a few visa options when traveling to the Philippines.

For stays that surpass the 30 days and for purposes other than leisure/business, the Philippines offers two types of visas:

  • Non-immigrant visas also called section 9 visas, which are available for long-term stays for study, work, or even leisure or tourism
  • Immigrant visas also called section 13 visas, which are available for Norwegians looking to become permanent residents of the Philippines.

Each of these visa types is further divided into more specific categories. These travel permits are requested and processed through Filipino embassies and consulates only.

In addition to the abovementioned options, there are special visas for specific categories of travelers such as government representatives or volunteers.

Filipino Visa Waiver for Norwegians: Entry Requirements

Norwegians will likely be among the citizens eligible for the eTA to the Philippines. As soon as the program is extended to more countries, travelers will be able to submit their application form online and obtain their visa waiver within a few days and even hours.

In order to apply for a Philippines travel permit from Norway, travelers will need to comply with the following Filipino eTA entry requirements:

  • A Norwegian passport valid for at least 6 months from the beginning of the trip
  • A current email address to receive the eTA and any useful communication regarding their application
  • A debit or credit card to complete the online payment of the eTA fee

When traveling to the Philippines, applicants will need to carry with them a printed copy of the approved eTA together with the same passport they used for the application.

Note: Citizens from Norway who have more than one passport should ensure they use the same one when completing the online form and when entering the Philippines.

Applying for a Philippines eTA From Norway

Applying for a Philippines electronic travel permit for Norwegians is a fairly easy and fast process. All they need is a stable internet connection and the documentation mentioned above. The application can be completed in less than 15 minutes.

In the Filipino eTA application form, Norway nationals will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Personal details: full name, place and date of birth, and citizenship
  • Passport details: number, country of issue, expiration and issuance date
  • Travel plans: expected dates of arrival and departure
  • Credit or debit card details for the completion of the payment
  • Email address to receive communications as well as the eTA confirmation

Furthermore, applicants from Norway should expect to be asked a few security questions.

Once the application form has been submitted, Norwegian visitors should expect to receive their confirmation email within two days. However, it is recommended to submit the application several days prior to the trip.

Note: all the information provided in the application form should be accurate and up to date. Any mistake may lead to delays or the rejection of the eTA and the need to fill out a new application form.

Finally, once they receive their approved eTA, Norwegian citizens will need to print it out to show it at immigration control when entering the Philippines.

Having an eTA will ensure better border control as well as fewer queues at the ports of entry.
